December 19, 1777 — Valley Forge Encampment Begins

Valley Forge wasn’t a battle. It was a crucible.

Washington led his ragged army into the Pennsylvania hills. Snow underfoot, smoke rising from log huts, men wrapped in rags for boots. Hunger gnawed harder than any musket ball. Disease thinned the ranks like cannon fire.

But here’s the miracle—they stayed. Farmers, shoemakers, frontiersmen. They could’ve walked home, and no one would’ve blamed them. Instead, they endured.

By spring, von Steuben had them drilling like professionals. What went into Valley Forge half-broken came out an army.

Empires fear battles, but they should fear endurance more. And Valley Forge proved we had it.
