Students sweltering in classrooms hotter than stoke‑room boilers. Forests aflame in Europe. Rivers running low and tempers rising. The world’s turned into one giant stewpot—and everyone’s on the menu.

A new Climate Central study found 76% of K–12 students in the 65 largest U.S. cities attend schools in extreme urban heat zones—up to 8 °F hotter than surrounding areas. In Europe, a heat dome is baking the continent: Spain has hit 114°F, France and Italy under red alerts, wildfires flaring up from Greece to the Alps  .

Back in the 1700s, savage summers and failed harvests drove bread riots in France, fuelled revolutions, and toppled crowns. In 1770 Paris, the “flour wars” boiled over as folks facing empty stomachs took to the streets. Same fire, new furnace.

Here’s what I see: classrooms so hot they’re prisons, fields so dry they’re tinderboxes, and kids too fatigued to learn. Back then, farmers didn’t quibble over pencils—they grabbed pitchforks. Today? We send emails.

Climate isn’t just weather. It’s the world’s weathermen—and right now they’re forecasting unrest. Poor planning, poor insulation, poor policies—and the heat don’t care who’s at fault. It finds the weakest link and shatters it.

So when the calendar hits July, keep your eyes on the thermometer and your hand near the tiller. Because when the world’s an oven, it browns more than bread—it bakes tensions till they crack.
