On this day in 1775, in the back room of a Philadelphia tavern, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of the U.S. Marine Corps. What started with just a few good men would become one of the fiercest fighting forces the world has ever known.

The Marines were born for grit and close quarters—first aboard ships, then storming beaches and holding the line wherever the nation called. From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, their legend has been carved with blood, steel, and unshakable discipline.
Now, I’ve run with rough men and faced down my share of gun barrels, but I wouldn’t have stood long against a wall of Marines. These weren’t backwoods militias—they were trained to fight hard, fast, and without hesitation. Good thing I stuck to rivers and ravines, far from their reach.
So here’s to the United States Marine Corps—born in a tavern, forged in battle, and feared by anyone with sense.
