🏴‍☠️ Sam’s Take: “Of Tariffs and Tea—When the Crown Gets Grabby”

April 22, 2025

Ahoy, mates. Seems the winds of protest are blowin’ strong again. Just this past weekend, the “Hands Off” protests surged across the nation, with citizens raising their voices against President Trump’s recent policies. From Washington to San Francisco, and even across the seas in Dublin, folks are expressing their discontent.

Now, this ain’t the first time the people have stood up against perceived overreach. Back in 1773, when the British Crown imposed taxes on tea without colonial representation, it led to the infamous Boston Tea Party. Colonists, dressed as Mohawk Indians, boarded ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor, making a statement heard ’round the world.

Fast forward to today, and the grievances may differ in detail but not in spirit. Tariffs, immigration policies, and concerns over civil liberties have many feeling that their voices are being drowned out by the roar of executive orders. The “Hands Off” movement, much like the Sons of Liberty of old, seeks to remind those in power that governance is a two-way street.

As your old pal Sam might say, “When the river’s current turns against ye, it’s time to row harder or change course.” So, whether you’re hoisting a protest sign or penning a letter to your representative, remember the power of collective action.

Until next tide,

– Sam Mason, still watchin’ the river
